How Ongiri works with payroll
Payroll-ready
before payroll runs.
Ongiri validates worker data, approved time and wage rules, resolves the exceptions — then hands clean, explainable data to the payroll system you already use. The pay run is right before it runs.
The real problem
Payroll errors don’t start in payroll.
By the time a pay run breaks, the cause is usually upstream — a wrong classification, a missed allowance, an unapproved timesheet. Payroll just inherits the mess. Fix the flow that feeds payroll, and the pay run runs clean.
Common upstream causes…
- Wrong classification or pay group
- Wrong rate or contract status
- Missed allowance or penalty
- Incorrect or unapproved overtime
- Shift not matching the roster
- Missing bank, tax or super details
The flow into payroll
Time → wage → payroll, validated at each step.
Ongiri owns the layer between your roster/clock and your payroll engine — validating time, interpreting wages, and readying the pay run, so only clean data reaches payroll.
Payroll, the Ongiri way
We make the pay run clean before it runs.
Ongiri doesn’t replace your payroll engine. It validates worker data, approved time, wage rules, allowances, penalties and exceptions — then hands clean, explainable data to payroll, which still owns payslips, STP, tax and super.
Three ways to run payroll with Ongiri
Mode 1
Connect your payroll
Keep your payroll system. Ongiri validates workers, time and wages, manages exceptions and hands off clean data by export or API.
Best for teams that already have payroll.
Mode 2
Bring a payroll partner
No suitable payroll yet? Ongiri runs the operating flow and hands off to a payroll partner who handles compliant processing.
Best for SMBs replacing manual payroll.
Mode 3
Start lite with Ongiri
Lite operating workflows — setup checklist, approved hours, gross-wage checks, pay-run summary and export files — while you integrate specialist systems as you grow.
Best for very small or early teams.
Payroll FAQ
Straight answers on payroll.
Does Ongiri replace payroll?
Not usually. Ongiri prepares and validates payroll by connecting worker data, approved time and wage interpretation before sending clean data to your payroll system. If you don’t have one, Ongiri can support a lite setup or connect you with a payroll partner.
Can Ongiri calculate wages?
Ongiri interprets pay rules and calculates or validates gross-wage outcomes before payroll — with an explanation for each result. The payroll engine remains responsible for final statutory processing, unless a client chooses an embedded payroll pathway.
Can Ongiri handle awards, allowances and penalties?
Yes. OnWage interprets awards, agreements and rate cards — applying penalty, overtime and allowance logic to approved work and flagging exceptions before they reach payroll.
What payroll systems can Ongiri connect to?
Ongiri hands off clean pay-run data by export or API, and is designed to connect with common payroll engines. Tell us your stack and we’ll confirm the integration path.
What if we don’t have a payroll system?
Start lite with Ongiri, or bring a payroll partner. Ongiri runs the operating flow either way and hands off clean, payroll-ready data.
Who remains responsible for final payroll processing?
Your payroll engine or provider. Ongiri makes the data clean and explainable before the run; it doesn’t act as the payroll processor of record.
A clean pay run, every time.
